Just realized Love Beyond the Curve is now available at Barnes and Noble!  Now my NOOK readers can get their copy.  Thanks to ALL my readers who have responded so well to this latest book.  Many feel Charlotte is more like a real woman of today, rather than the ultra thin types so popular in films and magazines now. I just like the way Reed is smitten by every curve!! 🙂  Have a wonderful week!

Away From the Spotlight by Tamara Carlisle is the love story of a man and woman who are destined for one another.   It’s love at first sight when Shannon, an ambitious, hard-working law student, happens to meet Will, tall, dark and gorgeous, while out  one evening with her best friend.   Shannon finds out quite by accident that the man she has fallen for is in reality a celebrity in the film industry.   This revelation makes her only question more how Will could love someone as “ordinary” as herself when he is surrounded by gorgeous women due to his career.   Will must convince her he only has eyes for her because she fell for him, and not his celebrity status.  He is very diligent in efforts to shield Shannon from the chaotic life facing celebrities, but it can’t last forever.   Will their love be strong enough to keep them together through long distance separations and paparazzi stalkers?

The chemistry between the two is tangible, and Carlisle captures that “crazy in-love feeling” on paper, sweeping the reader up in the romance of it all.  Shannon and Will are strong, realistic characters that are believable in their reactions to the various situations they are put in due to each other’s career.  This story will keep you rooting for these two to make it in spite of the obstacles they face as a couple.  Do not think this is a “run of the mill” romance.  Carlisle has written twists and turns into this plot that will keep you turning pages until you reach the last word.  I would recommend this book to anyone looking for something fresh in the romance genre.  Carlisle takes chances with her characters,nd comes out a winner!

Away From the Spotlight

by Tamara Carlisle

BLURB:

In the closing weeks of law school, Shannon Sutherland meets handsome and charming Englishman Will MacKenzie. Initially swept off her feet, Shannon finds that Will has a secret that, once discovered and the consequences realized, could destroy their fledgling relationship. Will and Shannon take great pains to have a normal relationship but, ultimately, find it impossible to do so. Will the pressures of their careers and the temptations of others drive Will and Shannon apart? Can Will and Shannon live a happy life away from the spotlight?

EXCERPT:

“I met someone.  His name is Will.  He’s English, I think.”

“That would be different for you.”

She wasn’t wrong.  I had very casually dated a number of men I had met in the various pubs in Santa Monica.  They were from all over Europe, but not one of them had been English for some reason.  There were Scottish, Irish and Welsh men among them, but never English.  I had commented on occasion on the fact that I never seemed to meet English men at the English pubs I frequented.

“I’m going to see him again tomorrow night.”

“What’s he like?”

“Drop-dead gorgeous, smart, funny and with excellent taste in music.  Just my type.  Well, better than my type, actually.  It’s hard to believe someone that perfect has any interest in me.”

Please” Rachael said.  “You get hit on every time we go out.”

“That’s overstating things quite a bit.”

“You seem oblivious to it half the time.”

I guess I did ignore some of it.  When you spend time as part of a female minority in bars full of drunk men, it was hard not to think that some of them would have hit on me for no other reason than that I was female, regardless of how I acted, what I said, or what I looked like.  I therefore learned that getting hit on wasn’t necessarily a compliment and, the later it happened in the evening, the less of a compliment it was.

#1 at BookStrand!!

Tonight, I checked on my new book at BookStrand Publishing, and it was in the #1 Top Seller spot!  I am surprised to say the least.  It hasn’t been released yet, but is available for pre-order.  I am thrilled and thankful to those that are taking a chance and purchasing it to read.  Again, I really like this story (it’s my favorite) , and hope my readers will feel the same.  The story is considered to be a “mainstream” romance novel, rather than my usual erotic romance story.  Though the language isn’t as strong, it is filled with some romantic and even “hot“scenes everyone can enjoy.

Here is an excerpt from the book.  This scene is near the beginning of the story when Charlotte and Reed are still just friends, but Reed is beginning to feel an attraction toward her.  Keep in mind as you read the excerpt that she lives in the carriage house he rents out that is behind his own home in a historic neighborhood of Memphis.  Hope you enjoy!

Story Excerpt

Love Beyond the Curve

“I promise to go easy on you, Mr. Jackson.  I really am not a scorekeeper anyway.  Bring the truck and Range Rover over here and you can help.  How about that?”  She sauntered on over to him with her hands on her hips.  She was breathing deeply from the activity.  Her breasts rose with each breath, screaming out to Reed to look at them.

“Okay, I’ll go get the keys.”

Charlotte moved her car back to its parking space, and went to mix together some fresh car wash solution.  Reed came back out, and they began to wash the cars together.  It didn’t take long to finish washing the work truck, so Charlotte jumped in and moved it back to its place under the car port.  She began soaping down the Range Rover as Reed wet it with the hose.  They had almost finished the tires when Charlotte stood up and said, “It’s hotter than an oven out here today.”

Suddenly, Reed, who was standing on the other side of the SUV, hit her in the back with a stream of cool water from the hose he was holding in his hand.

“Did that help?” he asked innocently as he began to try to walk away from her as she rounded the car to his side.

“Give that to me!  Payback is hell, Jackson!”  She growled at him  through clenched teeth.  She tried to reach for the hose, but he kept spraying her with it, soaking her more and more in the process.

“Okay, you win this time, but I will get you when you least expect it!” She pointed a finger at him and glared at him through narrowed eyes.  She walked away and resumed the work on the tires.

“I’m shaking in my boots, Hamilton,” he said as he walked over and turned off the water at the faucet.  When he stood up, Charlotte was running up to him with the bucket of soapy water, about to throw it on him.

“Oh, no you don’t!” he yelled as he ran around the truck, catching up with her and grabbing her around the waist so she couldn’t turn around to throw it on him.

“I am not one of those fussy little women you may be used to, Jackson.  I’ve never been afraid to get a little dirty!” she said as she lifted the bucket and dumped the water over both of their heads, soaking them to the skin.

“Shit, girl!” he yelped, wiping his face with his hand, then pulling his drenched shirt over his head and throwing it down as he glared at Charlotte who was standing there equally drenched, her breasts completely visible through the wet tank top.

Charlotte was momentarily dazed by the view now presented by a shirtless Reed.  His shoulders were broad and thickly muscled, with biceps that flexed as he shook the excess water from his arms.  Water trickled down the ripped muscles of his torso, over a tight six-pack.  His faded jeans hung low at his waist.  Dark hair covered his wide chest and  made Charlotte want to run her fingers through it, traveling right down the trail that disappeared below the waistband of his jeans.   She became distinctly aware of a throbbing sensation between her legs, compliments of her visceral reaction to Reed’s body.

“That’s ‘Miss’ Shit Girl to you!”  She recovered her senses and dropped the bucket to run from him.  She headed toward the stairs to her place, and had almost reached them when she was grabbed around the waist and swung around by two very strong hands.  Reed had her by the back belt loop of her cut offs, and was dragging her backwards as he marched determinedly toward the clean car.

“All right, Miss Shit Girl, let’s see how you like the way this feels.  After all, what was that you said a few moments ago about payback?”  He was practically snarling as he began to turn on the faucet again.

“What are you doing, Reed?  At least let me see your method of payback before it hits me.”   Charlotte tried to seem nonchalant, trying to make him see how much he didn’t bother her.

“Okay, Sassy, as you wish.” He turned her around and promptly stuffed the hose down the front of her cut-offs, with the water running full force.

She gasped at the shock of the cold water hitting her hot skin without warning.  Both of them looked down to watch the front of her shorts darken as the water soaked them and poured down her long, tanned legs.

“Well, now, what do you have to say about that?”  Reed stepped back, putting his hands on his hips with a look of triumph on his face.

Not one to be outdone, Charlotte pulled the hose out of her pants and tossed it aside on the ground.  She put a sultry smile on her face and walked up to Reed, who was still smirking at her, loving every minute of her discomfort.  He was shocked when she placed a single fingertip on his bare chest and slid it down to the waistband of his jeans.  She proceeded to slide all four fingers inside the waistband and grasp it, jerking him up against her saying, “I’d say you have succeeded in making me thoroughly wet, Reed Jackson,”

She let go of his waistband, causing him to have to take a step backward to keep his balance, and walked away to the stairs, looking back over her shoulder at a slack-jawed Reed.

Sleep Problem? I Don’t Have a Sleep Problem!

              ……….OR   ?

Tonight at 8:00 p.m., I will step inside The Sleep Center and hear the door lock behind me.  I have no idea what is going to happen after that.  Well, not exactly.  I do know the following:

  •  I will change into pajamas at some point.
  • I will have electrodes attached to me.
  • I will have a TV in my room to watch if I choose to do so.
  • I will have a camera, complete with audio watching everything I do.
  • I don’t have to go to sleep at a certain time.
  • I am not supposed to take a nap today (Sorry,  already did that, as I went to bed at 2 a.m. and woke up at 6:30 a.m.)
  • No caffeine after 3:00 this afternoon.

I really don’t know why I have to go do this in the first place.  I don’t snore .  I make a low growling sound.  There is a big difference.  I don’t hold my breath when I sleep.  My husband does that – even when he’s awake!  My husband told my endocrinologist that I don’t get enough sleep, and that is why I have to spend this Friday night AND next Friday night at The Sleep Center.  The reason I don’t get enough sleep is because I am a writer that prefers quiet, uninterrupted time to write, and that only happens around here when everyone else goes to sleep.  I stay up until early morning hours, and try to get going at the regular time because I have obligations and responsibilities.  So here I am.

There are a lot of things I don’t like about this set-up:

  • l don’t like the idea of feeling like I am on a reality show like Big Brother with cameras focused on me all the time.  I don’t like audio because I don’t know what kind of sounds besides snoring/growling they may hear once I’ve gone to Nappyland!!
  • I don’t like being somewhere that may have a deranged insomniac on site!  I hope I can lock my door, but doubt it.  Guess I can pack hair spray and a stiletto for protection!  A four-inch spike heel can do some damage as long as I don’t hesitate!  (I’ve watched 50+ episodes on The Mentalist on ion network this summer, so I am primed should some crime scene take place!)
  • I hope nobody has ever died there and haunted spirits roam the facility, because they will definitely look me up since I have psychic dreams and intuition (no joke- it is passed down on my mother’s side apparently.  There is one woman each generation with the “gift” and it appears to be me for my generation).  I don’t want to think about a sleep-deprived spirit.  Probably pretty darn grouchy!

What can I do to make the evening more bearable, maybe entertaining?  Here are some thoughts I’ve had on that subject:

  • I will probably do a concert for the poor souls on duty tonight.  I love to sing, and I can sing (or so I’ve been told), so I will make a song list before I go, and try to sing as many as possible before sleep overtakes me.
  • I considered ordering a pizza to be delivered around 11:00 p.m. just for laughs, but probably won’t spend the money just for a laugh, and because I’m sure they won’t unlock the door to accept it.  (Why are they so hip on locking the doors?  Do they think one of us will say, “Forget this!  I’m out of here!” and yank off the electrodes and leave mid-case study?)
  • I’ll pack some Smartfood popcorn to snack my way through the evening. Maybe a few bottles of water.  Maybe they will have “chewy ice” in the ice maker and I can eat that all night.  IT IS THE BEST! (I am iron deficient, and that is something common to those of us with that problem.  No joke.)
  • I have the current romance novel by Stephanie Laurens I started this week.  Maybe I’ll finish it.
  • I’ll take my trusty Nook and play Jewel Match and see if I can get past level 82, my current record.
  • I may take my laptop to try to complete my third novel which is almost to the end.  I’m not sure if the setting is conducive to romance writing (unless there is a gorgeous male nurse on duty to inspire me!)
  • Maybe I’ll “fan the dial” and see if there are some good crime dramas scheduled for this evening.

HEY!!!  Maybe I’ll just go to sleep at 8:30 and sleep through the night since that may be the best, and quickest, way to get through this.

If anyone reads this post and has actually gone through a sleep study, I welcome your comments on your experience.  Right now, even if they say I need that head-gear/machine to help me sleep better, I doubt I’ll get it.  I think I will look like a fighter pilot in the cockpit like in the movie,  Top Gun.  I spoke with a lady in the waiting room of The Sleep Center when I went for my consultation appointment.  She came outright and said her husband asked if there wasn’t something more sexy available for her to wear every night.  I suggested she hot glue black lace and tiny black satin ribbons on it.  Maybe even a sheer black veil edged in lace or satin ribbon?  If she could take on a dominatrix persona while in said suggested gear, that might do the trick and add a whole new side to their sex life, too!

Like I said, please send any suggestions or comments of what I can expect.  I will write tomorrow to tell you what ACTUALLY happens.  Have a great day, and a better weekend!:)

The Waiting Game Begins…….

Well, I just pressed “SEND” on my new manuscript submission five minutes ago.  Because I have already had a book published by this company, I only have to wait 2-3 weeks for an answer.  But that wait will probably result in a 5-7 pound weight gain!  I have surrounded myself with low carb to no carb foods, as I am trying to really do a better job of managing my diabetes.  I will have to walk my dog, Sasha, when I am ready to binge.  One us will be in better shape at the end of 3 weeks!

The bad thing about being a writer is the sitting at a computer for an extended amount of time.  My dad bought a book for me about managing diabetes from the Mayo Clinic.  It outlines 5 rules to break and 5 rules to adopt.  One rule to adopt is to allow yourself only the same amount of “screen time” (tv, video, computer), as time spent being active (walking, cleaning house, work out, etc.).    If I follow this rule, I will either be in tip-top physical condition, or have the cleanest house on the block, because I have a lot of writing to do on this next book!

Here are a few pics illustrating me for the next 2-3 weeks:)….

Hopefully, I can do this instead……

Looking for a Hot Highlander Story?…I Can Help!

Karen Marie Moning

Highlander romance novels.  Love them.  I love to read these stories, and I buy anything with the word Highlander in the title.  I actually have about 10 paperback Highlander novels (written by various authors) to read when I get time, because I have bought every one off the Book Sale rack at my local library.  But the very best Highlander stories I have EVER read are written by author, Karen Marie Moning.  Her Highlander books are the hottest, sexiest, funniest, most suspenseful Highlander stories ever written in my opinion.  I can’t put them down.  They start in the present day with a heroine that somehow meets up with a Highlander from the past.  There is some danger that must be overcome and they eventually have to work together to see it through, with lots of hot scenes to help get them to the end of the story.  Also, you will find some of the characters show up in other books of the series, so pay attention!  If you aren’t thrilled with the story when you get to the last page, then you must not be a true lover of a sexy Scottish Highlander.  I think you will be like me, and be rushing back to the library or bookstore to get another one of Moning’s books in this series.  I have read them all.  Visit www.karenmoning.com to find out more about her other book series (I love the Fae stories, too!).  Here are the books in the Highlander series.  I happened to have started with The Spell of the Highlander, which wasn’t the first book in the series.  It didn’t matter, it got me started on some of the best reading I’ve ever enjoyed.  Hope you will, too!

Again, you know my love of a good cover!  These didn’t let me down!  If you like reading in order, it has been suggested reading the books in the order shown below will provide a richer reading experience:
